St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, Bishop Gregory Grabbe, Protopresbyter Nicholas Afanasiev, Nicolas Zernov. What do all of them have in common? They spent their formative years in Belgrade, attending the theological faculty there at the same time or almost the same time. Isn't it fascinating that they reached such, sometimes drastically different ecclesiological conclusions later in their lives? This question came again today boldly and loudly during Dr. Victor Alexandrov's presentation on Fr. Nicholas Afanasiev given to the undergraduate canon law class. The words that canon law belongs to the field of ecclesiology confirmed my understanding. In my opinion, this one-hour seminar was a success, and I look forward to learning from students next time we meet if they think alike
